From the moment I set foot on Baros, I knew I had arrived at an idyllic escape. A luxury boutique resort with an impeccable legacy spanning over 52-years, Baros has mastered the art of hospitality, offering understated elegance, and warm, intuitive service. The welcoming yet discreet atmosphere strikes a perfect balance, staff are always present but never intrusive, anticipating every need with a seamless grace honed over decades of excellence. Baros artfully harmonises its pristine natural surroundings with chic design and thoughtful touches.
Dining at Baros was an absolute delight, and nowhere more so than at The Lighthouse, the resort’s flagship restaurant. While I nearly fell off my chair when I saw the price of the Wagyu steak, I decided to take the plunge, and I’m so pleased that I did. It was love at first bite: buttery, rich, and meltingly tender. To this day, it remains the best steak I have ever eaten, and worth every single penny.
One of the main features of Baros is its thriving house reef. Just steps from my villa, I found myself immersed in an underwater paradise teeming with vibrant marine life, from curious reef sharks to dazzling schools of fish that danced through the crystal-clear waters.
Baros’ most underrated advantage is its proximity to Malé. Just 25-minutes after departing the airport jetty, I was kicking off my shoes and sinking my toes into the soft sand, a glass of fizz in hand. That said, in the spirit of full transparency, Male is visible in the distance. For most guests, this feels like a minor detail, easily overshadowed by the sheer beauty of Baros itself. However, for those seeking an uninterrupted seascape with no sign of civilisation, this may be a consideration.
