Amanda Says:
Here’s the thing—when my seaplane began its descent towards Amilla, I felt a flicker of confusion. Rather than thatched-roof overwater bungalows that I’d come to expect in the Maldives, instead I saw a cluster of sleek, white structures that wouldn’t have looked out of place on a British seaside holiday complex. It was unexpected, to say the least. But if it’s good enough for some of the world’s most celebrated names in sport, TV and film, who was I to be sceptical? So, I set my preconceptions aside, and the moment I stepped into my overwater villa, it all clicked. Expansive, airy, and strikingly modern, the space wasn’t just designed to impress, it was designed to be lived in. With a seamless indoor-outdoor flow, high ceilings, and panoramic views of endless turquoise, it felt different to what I had experienced before.
A tour of the island sealed the deal. This is a vast resort that is refreshingly diverse, and when it comes to the accommodation, they have it all , lofty tree-top retreats, breezy beachfront residences, and overwater havens that redefine Maldivian luxury. By the end of my first day, I was fully converted. Amilla isn’t trying to be like every other resort in the Maldives. And that’s precisely what makes it so special.
